Short Term Accommodation (STA)
STA is designed for NDIS participants whose support needs are related to their disability. It’s especially helpful when informal carers, such as family or close friends, need time to rest or are temporarily unavailable. It's also suited to people looking to develop their independence, build social skills, or try new activities in a different setting. STA supports a wide range of goals, like improving community participation or learning daily living skills. Importantly, it’s for those whose care needs would benefit from structured, short-term stays—helping to maintain their current living situation or prevent carer burnout. The NDIS may also consider STA for participants at risk of reduced independence or where a break could positively impact their emotional and physical well-being.
STA can take place in different settings, such as a shared home, a dedicated respite unit, or even a hotel room, depending on the participant’s needs. It typically includes accommodation, personal care, meals, and agreed-upon activities. The NDIS usually funds up to 28 days of STA per year, which can be used flexibly—for example, a few days at a time or a couple of weeks in one go.
While STA is not intended for holidays or emergency housing, it’s a valuable option when the need is directly related to your disability. At Care Around You, we understand how important it is to have a space to recharge. We’re here to provide that support—so you can take a well-earned break, reconnect with yourself, and continue moving toward your goals with renewed energy.
